Remote Software Solutions is a boutique consultancy specialising in outsourcing in the Professional Services sector. This engagement required the expansion of the technical operations of the company, creating standards, optimising performance, and installing new Agile processes across the board.

The existing technical team mostly resided in Goa, with some embedded in companies in the UK, and used a variety of coding languages but with a complete lack of structure and direction.

The CEO required a complete transformation of the engineering function with the long term view of securing a full time CTO to be based in Goa, and wanted the function to be running smoothly before the appointment was made.

contract assignment - Global Head of Engineering (outside IR35)

12 month assignment as Global Head of Engineering to transform technical operations.

  • Conducted a capability review to accurately determine skills within the engineering team in all locations
  • Created a skills matrix to standardise roles and provide visibility for promotion within the engineering function
  • Produced a strategy for expansion of existing resource capability while continuing to aim for high utilisation
  • Assisted in hiring additional personnel across engineering and supporting functions
  • Oversaw Agile process introduction via regular video conferences and travel to Goan office
  • Mentored key personnel transition to Scrum Master / Product Owner roles
  • Assisted in hiring CTO in Goa to continue operations

Through the engineering transformation, the satisfaction levels of clients was significantly enhanced, and led to numerous contract extensions for the business.

Staff retention rates were significantly improved due to the increased visibility of promotion paths and overall structure that was put in place.

The CTO was hired and after a handover period, was embedded into the Goan office and was able to take over an engineering function that was stable and operating to a significantly higher level than ever before.
